Line the colored pen right atop the black. Afterwards, take a cotton swab and gently smudge the two liners together. You'll end up with a richer shade nearing on black. This will help give you a small amount of color without it being too obnoxious or gaudy.
   • Move the liner rather than your head to get a clean, even line. Also, resist the urge to pull your eyelid back taut, because when you release it the line will be rippled and ugly. ^[8]

If you're unsure, keeping the line thin and precise is a good way to see if you can pull it off. After you've mastered your first look, expand to other styles such as cat eye, double winged or smudged kohl.^[10]

   • Cotton swabs are your best friend. Remove excess eye makeup cleanly to prevent smudges.^[11]

Sometimes liquids can be very drying and they can enhance any texture on your eyelids.Also, on your bottom lashes, you should absolutely avoid liquid eyeliner. It will crack up, and it can sometimes get into the mucous membrane of your eye. It's best to use a pencil or a gel, but make sure they're waterproof!
